Day 4 - Neahkahnie Mountain to Manzanita

Where We Are Tonight:  Nehalem Bay State Park               Miles Hiked Today: 8.5 ( 13.7 km)

Miles Hiked Overall:  39.5 (63.6 km)

After regrouping at home and dealing with some "real life" commitments we are finally back on the trail again today.   We decided to ditch our heavy packs, so we both drove our cars and will be doing the hike as a shuttle.  We will leave one car at our planned stopping point for the day, and go in the other car to our starting point.  In addition to not having to carry all our gear with us it also provides the opportunity to control how far we go every day, and not have to start and stop some place where we can spend the night.

Today we did the Neahkahnie Mountain trail.  We are doing things slightly out of order, but will do the section from Neahkahnie Mountain to Arch Cape where we previously left off tomorrow.

Neahkahnie Mountain is the place that everyone stops to get that gorgeous shot of the coast...but you never think of the tall mountain that's there.   This is the 2nd time we've done this hike and neither time did we get to see the amazing view from the top of the mountain!  Today it was very cloudy and rainy and all we saw was white from the top.  After the mountain, we walked on Hwy 101 for over a mile (that was interesting) and then we took a side road into Manzanita.   We are staying at Nehalem Bay State Park.  We had great pizza in Nehalem...I recommend Pizza Garden!  Too tired to write any more.
