Day 30 - Boice Cope County Park to Cape Blanco

Where I Am Tonight:   Bandon        Miles Hiked Today: 8.5 (13.7 km)

Miles Hiked Overall:  266 (428 km)

Today we walked 8.5 miles from Boice Cope County Park to Cape Blanco SP.  The hike started with a sandy walk around Floras Lake, before transitioning into a nice trail through a dense forest.  No one was on the lake when we started the hike,  but when we came back late afternoon to retrieve our car there were several kite boarders and wind surfers on the lake.

After about 3 miles in the forest we popped out into a clearing and the trail went across the end of the runway at Cape Blanco State Airport runway...luckily it is inactive nowadays!   It has an over 5000 foot long runway and was built during World War II for the Navy.

We then hiked to Blacklock Point and had absolutely amazing views to both the north and south.

The hike down to the sand was steep but we were rewarded with beaches untouched by other footprints and beautiful rocks just off shore.  Near the end we had to wade through the Sixes River...we timed it so we would get there at low tide but it was still a fast-moving and COLD river. The hike ended with a climb up to the amazing Cape Blanco lighthouse.  The weather was nice, although very windy.  The wind was at our backs, so it was only an issue making it extra cold after wading through the water.
