Miles Hiked Overall: 299 (481 km)
Today Mike and I hiked from Arch Rock to Whaleshead Beach for 9.5 miles. This is a very challenging hike with lots of ups and downs. It's interesting because it kinda parallels 101 but then also goes way out to the cliff edges to give you perfect viewpoints of the ocean. This section of the Oregon coast (the Samuel Boardman State Scenic Corridor in particular) is so scenic and stunning. It's just one fabulous view after another!
Here is a photo of Arch Rock. We say several other rocks with arches, or natural bridges carved into them by erosion form waves.
Here is a photo of the view from Thomas Creek Bridge, Oregon's highest bridge. We were fortunate that they were doing construction as there is a very narrow shoulder on the bridge to walk on. However, with the construction they had traffic limited to one lane and construction was only on one end so we had a whole lane to walk in for most of the way across the bridge.
We got down to the beach just once today to a fabulous spot called Secret Beach. When we arrived, there was a professional crew there filming. I asked what they were filming and all they would say is a scene for a TV show. They were just wrapping up so we had the beach to ourselves for lunch
The hike was a mix of walking along the cliff edges with wonderful views, and trail though heavily wooded forests. As you can see, it was another fabulous sunny day. This was the last day Mike hiked with me and he left mid afternoon to return home.
